Noise Dosimetry Course
NVMS's 1-day Noise Dosimetry Course is aimed at approved Noise Officers and those who assist them in carrying out occupational noise dosimetry measurements to fulfill the requirements of the Resources Safety Division of the WA Department of Mines and Petroleum (DMP). Although primarily for the benefit of mine-site occupational noise assessors, the course is also relevant to non-minesite noise assessors working under the authority of Worksafe WA, NOPSEMA and other Australian authorities.
The course gives a detailed but understandable insight into noise dosimetry. Subjects include:
- Introduction to Noise Dosimetry
- Basic Acoustics
- Acoustic Analysis
- Instrumentation
- Dosimeter Parameters
- Interpreting the Results
- Practical Dosimetry
- Legislative Requirements
The content is based upon RSD's requirements for practical dosimetry and reporting, and includes details of how to set up, calibrate and deploy dosimeters, how to read and download data, how to interpret and calculate results, how to complete the RSD reporting form, and legislative requirements and responsibilities.
Course Structure
The course is divided into short presentations
accompanied by comprehensive lecture notes and
background information, audio demonstrations,
examples, calculations and hands-on practical
work.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own
dosimeters with them but this is not a pre-requisite,
as demonstration instruments will be available.
Breaks between presentations allow delegates to
ask questions, discuss relevant issues, and use instruments.
Who Should Attend
Noise Officers, noise assessors, health/hygiene
technicians, noise consultants and anyone who
uses noise dosimeters in their work will find this
course extremely beneficial to their overall understanding
of noise dosimeters and the process of dosimetry.
There are no specific pre-requisites: Approved
Noise Officers will find the early part of the course
is useful revision of acoustics and sound analysis, while
those with less experience will gain from the background
information provided, before focusing more specifically
on dosimeter use.
Training Facility
The NVMS training facility is located at our Perth head office
(see map).
A really great course. I found it very informative - would definitely recommend it to others.
