Noise Officer Course – 5 days

NVMS’s highly-regarded DMIRS-approved Noise Officer Course includes all subject areas required by DMIRS Resources Safety and those recommended by AS/NZS1269.1:2005, “Measurement and assessment of noise immission and exposure” for the training of competent persons. These include Basic Acoustics, Analysis of Sound Waves, Sound Measurement Instrumentation, The Need for Noise Control, Evaluation of Noise, Practical Noise Surveys, Hearing Protection, Noise Reduction, Statutory Requirements and Guidance Literature, and much more.

Course Structure

The Noise Officer Course is a five-day full-time course from Monday to Friday. Progress is assessed by a written test and a noise survey report to be submitted following completion of the course.

Who should attend?

Occupational hygienists, OHS advisers and technicians, safety and training coordinators, medics, acoustical consultants, hygiene consultants.

Outcomes

Successful completion of the course and the assessed elements entitles delegates to register as Approved Noise Officers with DMIRS Resources Safety, a qualification which is recognized by most OH&S authorities around Australia and beyond.

Noise Officer Refresher Course – 2 days

The Refresher Course, for Noise Officers whose accreditation is due for renewal and who meet the requirements for competency as specified by DMIRS Resources Safety, runs on Wednesday and Thursday of the 5-day course, when delegates can reacquaint themselves with instrumentation use, learn about current legislation, and refresh their noise survey techniques. An examination and post-course noise survey are also to be completed.

Who should attend?

Noise Officers whose approval is due for renewal and who can demonstrate current competence in occupational noise assessment.

Outcomes:

Successful completion of the 2-day course and the assessed elements entitles delegates to re-register as Approved Noise Officers with DMIRS Resources Safety.

Noise Dosimetry Course – 1 day

Aimed at anyone involved in ongoing personal noise dosimetry programs in the workplace, this 1-day course provides a detailed insight into noise dose meters, benefits and limitations, practical use, data analysis and interpretation, reporting, and legislative requirements . The course is recognised by DMIRS Resources Safety but the content is equally applicable to any workplace around Australia where dosimetry is required. There are no pre-requisites.

Who should attend?

Noise Officers, hygiene technicians, hygiene consultants, OHS advisers, acoustical consultants.

Outcomes

On completion of the Noise Dosimetry Course, attendees will have detailed knowledge of the practicalities of personal noise dosimetry and a thorough understanding of the data it provides.

Local Government Environmental Noise Course – 2 days

Aimed specifically at WA Local Government Environmental Health Officers, NVMS’s 2-day LGEN course provides a thorough overview of all practical aspects of environmental noise. The course is recognized by the WA Dept of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER) and complements their own 2-day Noise Refresher Course. Covering the specific requirements of the WA Environmental Protection (Noise) Regulations 1997, the course also covers the broader topics of basic acoustics and acoustic analysis, outdoor sound propagation, instrumentation, noise characteristics, prediction and modeling, and practical measurement. There are no pre-requisites – the course is suitable for new EHOs as well as those with prior noise experience.

Who should attend?

WA local govt EHOs, DWER environmental/compliance officers.

Outcomes

On completion of the LGEN course, attendees will have a thorough understanding of environmental noise from measurement procedures and data interpretation to regulatory application and compliance assessment in Western Australia.

Environmental Noise Course – 2 days

NVMS’s 2-day Environmental Noise Course is aimed at WA industries concerned about the impact of their operations on their surroundings. Covering the specific requirements of the WA Environmental Protection (Noise) Regulations 1997, the course also covers the broader topics of basic acoustics and acoustic analysis, outdoor sound propagation, instrumentation, noise characteristics, prediction and modeling, noise control, and practical measurement. There are no pre-requisites.

Who should attend?

Industry environmental superintendents and advisers, EHS technicians, compliance officers, community relations officers, operations supervisors, production managers.

Outcomes

Attendees will have a good understanding of the theory and practice of environmental noise from source to receiver, instrumentation and measurement, intrusive noise characteristics and public response, legal obligations and implications, and practical application of the noise regulations.
