The PDStar is an advanced solution for condition-based maintenance programmes in substations. Like the PDetector, it enables online partial discharge (PD) testing, allowing real-time insulation assessment while equipment remains energised. However, PDStar integrates infrared imaging technology, providing an additional layer of diagnostic capability for detecting thermal anomalies alongside PD activity.
By utilising Phase Resolved Partial Discharge (PRPD) technology, PDStar precisely identifies the type of PD activity, including void, corona, surface, particle, or floating electrode discharge. With the combination of PD detection and infrared imaging, maintenance teams can achieve a more comprehensive asset health assessment.
